Catacombs

Your chauffeur will pick you up at your hotel and whisk you out of the city to the ancient Catacombs. Drive through Circus Maximus, past the Mouth of Truth, and out of place Pyramid across the Appia Antica and you will arrive at the mysterious, underground Christian tombs. Your on-site guide will then take you down for a 45-minute tour of the tombs. On the way back you will see some other off-the-beaten-path spots only a local could find. Food tour in Trastevere

Meet your private guide for a gastronomic tour in Trastevere, where the locals still live on little cobblestone streets. Start at the Bar (coffee shop), for a traditional Italian coffee experience. Then wander through the Roman neighborhood to the ancient bakery for more treats and the favorite ‘pizza bianca’. Next up is wine with local salamis and cheeses! Our expert driver will pick you up in a luxurious Mercedes and will take you on a driving tour where you will encounter special scenes just outside the city walls. Your tour will be filled with photo ops and the must-visit spots that only the locals know about. You'll visit some of the Seven Hills of Rome for spectacular views, look through the ‘hole in the door’ to see what’s on the other side, and more. When the tour is complete your driver will deliver you back to your hotel or at your next destination downtown.

Your expert guide will shed light on the dark and dramatic style of the artist Caravaggio who was considered a crazy genius. You'll learn the drama of his life in Rome while viewing his giant masterpieces housed in majestic Churches in the historical center of the city. Think of this tour as a walking Caravaggio scavenger hunt!

The Pope & Porta Portese

Your private driver will pick you up and take you to see the Papal Mass at St. Peters. After mass, they will deliver you to your guide at Italy’s most famous market, Porta Portese. The market is four miles of great bargains, bustling shoppers, and lots of excitement. You will have a special stop for an obligatory tasting of wine, meats, cheeses, and regional favorite foods from Calabria. Sundays only, weather permitting.

Calcata

In the 1930s, the hill town's fortified historic center was condemned by the government for fear that the volcanic cliffs the ancient community was built upon would collapse. Local residents moved to nearby Calcata Nuova. In the 1960s, the emptied historical centre began to be repopulated by artists and hippies who squatted in its medieval stone and masonry structures. Many of the squatters eventually purchased their homes, the government reversed its condemnation order, and the residents of what had become an artistic community began restoring the ancient town.


This trend has continued. Today the town has a thriving artistic community described in the New York Times as what "may be the grooviest village in Italy, home to a wacky community of about 100 artists, bohemians, aging hippies and New Age types." 

The historical centre now includes restaurants, cafes, people and their local crafts, and art galleries.

The great Roman Emperor Hadrian, architectural genius, designed this marvelous Villa. Spend a relaxing day touring the ruins and the gardens where you'll learn about the mystery of his private life. Nearby, roam through bath houses and forums fit for a king. Your private guide is a local so she knows all the secrets, as well as the best place for lunch! Your private driver will take you directly to your personal guide in Tivoli.
